Shower Door Care & Maintenance

CAUTION: ABRASIVES AND HARSH CLEANING PRODUCTS WILL DAMAGE GLASS!!!!

Never use scouring powder, abrasive pads, steel wool, or gritty rags.  Do not use acid based cleaners, bleach based cleaners, or sharp instruments to clean ClearShield™ glass as these can permanently damage glass.   Please use a clean soft, lint free damp cloth or sponge.

To properly care for ClearShield™ glass:

  1. Most Important:  Simply rinse with water and squeegee dry after each use.
  2. Periodically, clean the glass using ClearShield™ AfterCare. The AfterCare cleaning solution offers optimum cleaning benefits, maximizes the long life protection of ClearShield, includes an anti-bacterial formula and leaves a clean, fresh scent.

Glass Cleaners like Windex and Glass Plus will not harm ClearShield™ glass, but are unnecessarily strong.
Never use commercial strength cleaners or products like Lime Away or CLR on ClearShield™ glass as it can damage the porous surface.

For areas with hard water or well water with high concentrate of mineral deposits, such as lime and calcium, a build up may occur on the glass. If properly maintained, Clearshield protected glass should come clean, whereas non-protected glass is almost always permanently stained. A solution of white vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 5 parts water) can be sprayed on the glass and allowed to soak for several minutes. This will dissolve mineral deposits that have built up on the glass surface and a damp microfiber cloth should be used to wipe the glass clean. Clearshield also sells a lime scale remover product that works well in this situation.

When glass steams up, sometimes there can be a circular or swipe marks visible in the glass that will no longer appear when the glass dries. This occurs because the water remaining after cleaning contains minute traces of contaminates. After drying, these contaminates remain but are not visible to the naked eye. This is a normal occurrence with glass and does not affect the performance of surface protection.

Cleaning Metal

After testing some of the most popular cleaners, the Bath Enclosure Manufacturer Association (BEMA) found that Lysol Bathroom Cleaner was the most effective for metal finishes.   The key is to understand what types of cleaners to avoid. Many cleaners labeled for use in bathrooms that are abrasive can damage the metal finish or scratch the glass of an enclosure.   For a simple approach to cleaning both glass and metal, Creative Mirror’s Perma Gleam Cleaner is mild and non-abrasive and will not cause damage to either surface.
